The Speedway ArtistCollective is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit arts organization dedicated to supporting and elevating local artists. Established as a program out of the Mars Hills Arts Center (founded by Lisa and John Schmitz) and formally recognized as a nonprofit in September 2025, the Collective continues its mission of building creative opportunity and community through the arts.
Rooted in Speedway and serving the broader west side of Indianapolis, the Collective provides a vibrant space where artists can showcase and sell their work, from Speedway- inspired pieces and handmade goods to fine art and contemporary creative expression. Beyond the gallery, the organization also hosts hands-on classes and workshops designed to make art accessible, social and engaging for all skill levels..
“We created this collaborative art community to serve not only race fans, but Speedway, Indianapolis, and Indiana art fans alike. This new shop opportunity presented itself just as we finalized our plan for the 2024 month of May on Main Street. It has been the perfect segue from the month of May to be able connect with the community in an ongoing fashion. The shop sits right in the heart of the redeveloped 16th and Lynhurst corridor with some other amazing businesses. We are enjoying partnering with them to create a special location in Speedway where art, food, and fun collide, inspiring #shopthecornerSpeedway” says Lisa. “We hope to create a welcoming, creative experience showcasing great local artists for years to come,” she adds.
